My current research focuses on trying to understand the underlying causes and effects of specific gene loss in the advanced stages of urological cancer - in particular I am looking at mechanisms regulating expression of three genes: KAI1, a metastasis suppressor; Uroplakin 1b, a marker of differentiation; and MIM which encodes a newly identified actin-binding protein. These projects use a wide variety of molecular and biochemical approaches, as well as tissue culture studies and involve collaborations within Australia (University of Sydney and QE Hospital Adelaide)and overseas (US and Germany).
